An Automated Coating System Designed Around Cable Tray Geometry and Powder Curing Requirements

Project Overview

ZHYAO supplied an automatic powder coating line for cable tray products in China. The system features automatic powder spraying equipment and a bridge-type curing oven, with the main equipment configured around the requirements of cable tray coating.

Project Background

Cable trays are available in different structural forms, including ladder-type and perforated or solid-bottom designs. Their open sections, folded edges, holes, and bends can affect how powder reaches the workpiece surface.

For an automatic powder coating line, the challenge is not simply to apply powder to the visible surfaces. Spray gun arrangement and workpiece presentation must also be considered to achieve suitable coverage across the product's different surfaces.

ZHYAO configured an automatic powder coating line incorporating an automatic spraying system and a bridge-type curing oven.

The engineering considerations for this type of application include three main areas.

1. Automatic Spraying for Cable Tray Structures

The spraying arrangement needs to account for the cable tray's cross-section, edge geometry, and surface openings. These features influence the direction from which powder can reach the workpiece and whether some areas may be shielded during spraying.

The appropriate gun arrangement depends on the actual cable tray design and its dimensions. Different tray structures may require different spraying strategies, so the equipment configuration should be evaluated against the customer's product range rather than based on the product name alone.

2. Curing Oven Configuration

The bridge-type curing oven is part of the supplied coating system. Its operating conditions need to match the powder coating material's curing requirements and the workpiece's thermal characteristics.

Oven temperature and curing time should be established from the coating material specifications and actual process requirements. They should not be determined solely by the nominal dimensions of the cable trays.

3. Coordination Between Spraying and Curing

Spraying and curing are connected stages of the coating process. The production line layout needs to consider how the workpieces move between these stages, along with the required coating process and available factory space.

For projects involving multiple cable tray sizes or structural designs, the product range and production requirements should be clarified before finalizing the equipment arrangement.
